Your Child's First Dental Visit: When and What to Expect

Your child's first dental visit sets the tone for every visit after it. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first checkup by age one or within six months of the first tooth — earlier than most parents expect, and for good reason.

At that first appointment we keep things short and playful: a knee-to-knee exam while your little one sits on your lap, a gentle look at incoming teeth, and honest guidance on brushing, bottles, and bedtime routines. No drills, no pressure, no surprises.

Starting early lets us spot crowding, enamel weaknesses, and habits like thumb-sucking while they are still easy to guide. Children who begin visits as toddlers consistently show less dental anxiety at age five and beyond. If you are wondering whether it is too soon — it almost certainly is not. Come say hello; the first smile is on us.
